Coolsculpting

How Does Coolsculpting Work?

Are you frustrated by lower abdominal fat whenever you wear pants at your hips instead of your waist? Do you wear long sleeves to hide your upper arm fat? Do you wish there was something you could do about stubborn pockets of fat on your lower back or middle back? If so, you may be interested in learning more about Coolsculpting, an FDA-approved body contouring treatment offered at Skin Suite Rx Aesthetics Rejuvenation MedSpa in Chino, CA.

How Does Coolsculpting Work?

CoolSculpting works by freezing the fat cells in the treatment area to death. What’s exciting about this treatment is that there is no risk to surrounding tissues, including skin and muscle tissues. Skin and muscle tissues are water-based, so there is not a risk of them freezing until temperatures reach 32 degrees. However, the cryolipolysis device only cools the fat cells to roughly 42 degrees, well above the freezing temperature of water.

Once the fat cells in the area are frozen to death, they are noticed by your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system is like your body’s janitor. It sees garbage, like dead fat, muscle, and skin cells, sweeps up the garbage, and eliminates the garbage. This process takes time, so you won’t see your ideal results right away, but this treatment is a lot faster than trying to sculpt your ideal contours on your own.

How Quickly Does This Treatment Work?

This treatment works very quickly. In fact, your treatment sessions may only take between 15 minutes and an hour depending on the number of areas you’re treating in a single session. The size of the areas targeted and the amount of excess subcutaneous fat in those areas also affect how long each session takes. That said, by the end of the session, between 20 and 80% of the fat cells in your treatment area will be frozen to death.

It may take around two to three weeks to start seeing the results of your treatment. However, it would take a couple of weeks to start seeing the results of a consistent caloric deficit. The final results of this treatment tend to become apparent one to three months after your final treatment session. If you’re like most people, you’ve been trying to lose the last stubborn bulge or two for years, and a few months is no time at all in the grand scheme of things.

How Can I See My Final Results Faster?

To see your final results faster, you need to maximize the efficiency of your lymphatic system. Don’t slow it down by eating processed foods, like canned soup, low-fat or fat-free dairy, and protein bars. Instead, give it clean fuel that it can easily burn, like fruits, vegetables, lean cuts of meat, and full-fat dairy products, like milk, yogurt, and cheese.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

Depending on several factors, including how close you are to your goal weight, you may need between one and six treatment sessions. However, most people are able to sculpt their ideal contours in just one to three treatment sessions. We will give you a better idea on how many sessions to expect once we’ve evaluated your areas of concern and discussed your goals in-depth.

How Long Will the Results of My Treatment Last?

The results of Coolsculpting are considered permanent because you stop being able to grow fat cells when you reach the age of 25. Since this treatment works by killing your fat cells, there will always be a smaller number of fat cells in the treated areas than you started with. However, you still need to balance your caloric budget once your course of treatments is over. The remaining fat cells in the area can still store fat.

Individual results vary, but you should be able to maintain your ideal contours if you can maintain your weight fairly well. As a good rule of thumb, you should try to gain no more than 10 pounds of fat following your treatment. Whether you will notice a change to your contours if you gain 10 pounds depends on a number of factors, including your genetics. However, a 10-pound fat gain shouldn’t be noticeable.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

To determine whether you qualify for this fat removal treatment, you need to come in for an initial consultation. We need to discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate your problem areas to ensure there is enough subcutaneous fat in your problem areas for this treatment to be effective. We also need to verify that there isn’t too much excess subcutaneous fat in your problem areas.

As a general rule of thumb, you will qualify for this treatment if you are a relatively healthy adult with concerns about stubborn pockets of fat. It is ideal that you are within 30 pounds of your goal weight. If you are over 30 pounds from your goal weight, it is possible that your trouble areas will have too much excess fat, and you won’t be satisfied with the results of your treatment.

Who Isn’t a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

While the FDA approved this treatment for most adults, you will not be considered a good candidate for this treatment if you are pregnant or nursing. The FDA has not reviewed the results of any research related to the effects of cryolipolysis on pregnant or nursing women. Also, you may not be considered a good candidate for this fat removal treatment if you have an extreme sensitivity to the cold due to Raynaud’s disease or a similar condition.

Uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, and other medical conditions may also disqualify you from this treatment. Also, you must be able to adhere to all preparation instructions to qualify.

How Should I Prepare for This Treatment?

To prepare for your non-invasive fat removal treatment, you should ensure you are hydrated at the time of your appointment. To do this, you should try to drink at least eight ounces of hydrating fluids, like tea, coffee, and water, every hour you’re awake. If your urine is still dark, you should make a point to eat more foods with a high water content, like broth-based soup, vegetables, and fruits.

Also, it is important that your skin is not irritated at the time of your appointment. To mitigate the risk of sunburn, make sure you wear sunscreen every day and reapply it every four hours. You should also try to minimize your time spent outside between the hours of 10 and 4. This is when the sun’s rays are strongest and can do the most damage to your skin.
